“Living a Balanced Life in the Middle of Chaos
Spring Ceremony of Renewal in Minnesota

To Be Determined

In the depths of Winter, if we listen, we can hear the promise of Spring. The life that has been nurtured underground in Winter will burst forth with renewed vitality come Springtime.

Each Spring, for the last  16 years, we have gathered to create ceremony together. We gather to renew ourselves in the company of friends and colleagues, to listen to the wisdom of our inner knowing and to choose one new “seed” to plant in the garden of our lives.

We gather to give thanks for our own life, for the lives of our community and for Life all around us. For the last eleven years, we have gathered on the banks of the St. Croix River, near Stillwater, MN.

Amidst herons, turtles, beavers, foxes and eagles, and butterflies, we offer our gratitude for the last cycle of our lives. We also listen for the future that is calling to us as we seek our own inner wisdom, within a safe circle of people, and with the powerful St. Croix River herself.

All of Life is change, and yet, it does seem that the changes in our world grow more complex and accelerated each year. In this ceremony we will dig deeper into the whole territory of balance, seeking the understanding that allows us to flow gracefully with change and to use it as a sign that we both need and want to grow.

And so, rather than stasis, or stagnation, we will learn together about the dynamic nature of both change and balance and learn methods and practices to be in a different relationship with the world around us.

Each year, we seek out one seed that we care about to plant in the garden of our lives. After our ceremony we carry with us, not only our own seed, but also an awareness of the seed of everyone who sat in circle with us. It has been said that we cannot hate or love anyone who’s story we don’t know. In this ceremony we will come to know both our own and each other’s stories more intimately.

What is expected of each of us as participants?*

To show up and be present – our presence is the gift we can give to ourselves and to one another.

To look for and seek out what has heart and meaning for us – this helps us to find the calm center in the eye of today’s hurricane.

To speak our truth without blame or judgment – we live in a time of division and separation where our capacity to truly listen to each other is being called for more and more every single day.

To be open to outcomes and not attached – how many times have we held onto specific expectations and missed out on the opportunity in any given situation.

*These four agreements come from and are inspired by the work of Angeles Arrien.

What outcomes might I expect for myself?

Greater clarity about how to thrive in challenging times.

An opportunity to slow down and reflect upon my life in a spacious way.

An experience of being connected to the larger rhythms of nature.

An experience of belonging in a community while being free to be who I truly am.

Greater awareness of my unique gifts and the opportunity to share them and be seen.

Hearing my own voice and the voices of others deeply expressed and knowing that we all matter.

A beginning understanding of Earth Wisdom in the context of my own life.
